Woohoo!! I've Been Tagged!

Am I one of the very few that loves getting tagged? Or am I just crazy?

Anyhoo, I was tagged by the very delicious Yummy411 and must now share with all of you the different little doodads and gadgets I carry with me in my purse.

I force myself to carry a small purse. If I carry anything any bigger, or with more compartments, then I end up carrying the kitchen sink with me. Using a smaller purse also forces me to keep it clean of trash and anything else since there's not a lot of room. So for starters, here's my purse all zipped up and ready for a trip to the grocery store...or to class, which I have the pleasure of starting soon (that's sarcasm you're sensing by the way).

Yes, I know! It's so adorable! :P :)

Now here's everything after it's been dissected and it's innards have been gutted...

Let's start the list, shall we? Cleaning cloth for my glasses, my Palm Pilot (which I typically only carry with me and use when I am in school), C.O. Bigelow Mentha Lip Balm Stick, my iPod, bluetooth head piece that goes to my Razr conveniently located above it, my keys to the car/truck/storage area/and somewhere else that I don't where that key goes, the remote control for the stereo in the truck (I have to keep it hidden in a place I know my husband won't go in cause if he finds it and gets control of it, or finds out that it still exists, the radio station will never stop changing in the truck!), 2 pens, a sharpee with a chewed up cap (I have no idea why the sharpee was in my purse, let alone why it was chewed up), and the keyless remote entry for the truck with my house key. I keep the last two separate from my other keys so I can lock the truck while it's warming up in the winter time, and still lock the house when I leave and get into the truck! :)

I keep my credit cards and discount cards in two handy dandy little carrier thingies that were used for birth control. When I used up the BC, I decided to keep the little pouches cause I figured they could come in handy for something, and lo and behold, they did!

Here's my sad little purse feeling all empty inside.

If you're wondering why there's no makeup in there, well, it's because it's 5 in the morning where I'm at and I haven't been to bed yet, and therefore I haven't put any makeup on which leaves me with no lipstick/gloss/liner or compact powder to put in my purse since I'm heading off to bed as soon as I publish this. Wow! Was that a run-on sentence or what?!?! My favorite English teacher would seriously be shaking his head at me right now! Night everyone...or morning, if you're just getting up!

Oh yeah! Almost forgot! I'm tagging EmsyJay, Julie, Stephie, and Tina.

Pigmentation Organization!

With a title like that, I feel like I'm on Schoolhouse Rock or something. LOL

Anyhoo, today I got a lovely little message from one of my youtube subscribers about spotlighting me in a post. Woohoo!! Cool beans! But as exciting as that was, it wasn't nearly as exciting as what I read toward the end of the post.

Do you own a lot of pigments and travel a lot? Do you wish you had a handy dandy way of keeping your loose MAC pigments with you, but without losing space from the size of the jars, and not mention the inefficiency of having all those individual jars with you??

Stress no more! Cody Jefferies has solved all your pigment problems! Check out this great site that Cody goes to to buy some storage tins for pigments! Cute? It's not bad looking...but when it comes to storage, I want efficiency, not cutesy. Efficient? Absolutely! You can store up to 20 different pigments in one little case, and still see the color of the pigment through the clear lids. Affordable? At $5.97 for the whole set-20 aluminum jars and 1 hinged storage box-how could you refuse??

Here's a picture of the pigments that Cody has put into the jars. If you read the rest of the post as well, there's some great tips for train cases and a great spotlight on EnKoreMakeup for his wonderful tips on makeup storage and organization!

MAC's Holiday Eye Brush Set

With the holiday season in full gear and gaining full speed before December when all engines will hit light speed, I thought it'd be a good time to do a quick review of the MAC Holiday Eye Brush Set from the Heirlooms Collection - especially since I get a lot of questions about eye brushes. I'm only reviewing the eye brushes since they are the ones I use the most (I've only recently started using my 190 brush again).

Personally I don't really like getting the holiday brush sets mainly because of the length of the handles and because the handles are made of plastic. I find that the shortened length does not give you as much control of the brush as the regular length brushes do. Becuase of this lack of control, you lose control of where the color gets placed. Also, I feel that because the handles are made of plastic, this gives the brushes a lighter feel, with there being less weight in your hand to balance the brush with, which once again leads to control. BUT if it's the first time you're using brushes, these two disadvantages could lead to an advantage for you in the future. You could buy these brushes and get used to the way they handle, and you could become familiar with how they work and also get used to how to control the brushes with the length and weight. With this in mind, say later on down the road, you decide you want to upgrade to the full-size brushes. In my opinion, you'd already be better at using the full-size brushes. Why? Because it should (in my world anyways) be easier for you to control the full-size brushes compared to the travel-size brushes. But that's just my mentality.

If you want to try the Holiday brush sets to see how you like the brushes, and to get familiar with what each of the brushes do, the holiday brush sets would be an affordable and convenient way to go. If you already have the regular brushes, the Holiday Brush set is also a convenient and easy way to carry brushes with you when you want to touch up your makeup throughout the day. Rather than carrying your full-size brushes, and risk damaging/breaking them, you can carry these handy-dandy little travel size ones with you.

Now, here's my break-down of what the eye brushes are and how I would/do use them (I don't have all of them). Something to keep in mind: Even though it seems like a lot of brushes have the same uses (lining/applying/blending), each of them creates a different effect. The same description plus the product does not always equal the same look.

209SE - Eyeliner Brush
A lot of people who have liquid eyeliners, or the fluidline eyeliners, prefer to use this brush to apply the liner with rather than the brush that comes on the cap with the product. It's relatively the same idea as what's on the cap, but some people prefer the longer bristles on this brush (which also seem stiffer, yet soft) than what comes on the cap of the product.
212SE - Flat Definer Brush
One of the main things to use this brush for is lining your eyes. A lot of people like to use MAC 266 brush when lining their eyes with powders or creams (think fluidline), however there are a lot of other people that don't like the look gained with using the 266, or can't get as close to the lashline while using the 209, so instead, they use a flat brush like the 212.
217SE - Blending Brush
This brush is, well, it is what it's called - a blending brush! This is a great brush to use for softening harsh lines and blending between colors, and shading. Even though there are other brushes that would be better suited, this is also a great brush to use for defining your crease and for adding depth to it as well. I wouldn't use this brush for applying eyeshadows, however.
252SE - Large Shader Brush
This was the first brush I purchased from MAC and has proven its worth. The 252 is a great brush to use for packing on that eyeshadow and getting a lot of color payback! It also comes in pretty handy when applying cream products like the paints or fluidlines all over your lid. The only reason this brush has fallen from the #1 spot is because it's little sister, the 242 (which is the same brush, just smaller, which makes it more functional) took over as #1.
275SE - Medium Angle Shading Brush
The medium angle brush is another great brush for blending. Because of its angular shape, it's useful for getting into corners for blending! If you're wanting to go for a more sheer look, this is the brush you'll want to use to apply your eyeshadow with.

If you're tight on cash, I have a couple of recommendations for you.
  1. You may want to check out www.crownbrush.com - especially the badger series. Crown Industries Inc. is a brush wholesaler BUT they do conduct business for personal needs. The badger series brushes are MAC quality without the MAC price. Brushes range anywhere from $1.49 to $15.95 USD. They accept all major credit cards as well as checks. Just email them at crownbrushes@hotmail.com, request to be sent a catalog, and you can look over the entire array of brushes that they sell (or you can simply view their catalog online). They also have a discount policy based upon the total amount that you purchase. The only drawback is that because they are a wholesaler company, they have an order minimum of $25.00.

  2. You may also want to check out your local craft store for good quality paint brushes. That's right. I said paint brushes! EnKoreMakeup has made a video comparing paint brushes to MAC brushes and also gives recommendations for what sort of paint brushes to look for. If you click on his name above, it will take you to his youtube channel, but if you click here, it will take you directly to the video I'm talking about.

I hope this helps you all in your debates of holiday brush sets or not! And as always with the holiday season, be safe and happy shopping!! :)

My Favorite MAC Brushes

I’ve been asked a couple of time which brushes are my favorites and what the certain brushes. I decided I’d post a blog about it—

I would have to say that my 5 must have brushes are eye brushes, in no particular order:
#252 - Large Shader Brush - I use this brush when I want to pack a lot of color onto my lid. It's one the 1st brushes I ever bought from MAC and I still love it as much as the day I bought it.
#242 - Shader Brush - This brush is a smaller version of the 252 but I like very much. I use it when I want to get a lot of color but over a smaller area of the lid.
#275 - Medium Angled Shading Brush - This is another good brush for applying eyeshadow, but I like to use it more for blending then for applying.
#219 – Pencil Brush – I like to use this brush for applying eyeshadow to my crease, corner or along my upper lashline when I want a smoky or smudged look. This brush is GREAT for smudging eyeliner!
#266 – Small Angle Brush – This is a great brush to have in your collection if you use eyeshadows to line your eyes. Because of thinness and angle, it applies eyeshadow right to where you want it.

I have brushes for my face but they're noname brushes that I’ve had for a while now. Basically they’re your average blush brushes, one is bigger than the other so I use the bigger one for bronzing or all over face application and the smaller one for blush. I've been wanting to get a kabuki brush for a while now but I'm debating on it...

I also have a lip brush which is a special edition brush #316SE. I really like it, but rarely use lip brushes for myself so I couldn’t give you an honest opinion about lip brushes. When I do use the #316 brush, though, I love it and think about how I should use it more often. LoL.

But as far as any other brushes are concerned, the five eye brushes that I listed are my absolute faves and should be considered a must-have for any collector.

Now, I’m gonna let you in on a little secret…
www.crownbrush.com sells make-up brushes and from what I’ve read on specktra.net (which is a great forum for the MAC and makeup obsessed), their badger series of brushes is wonderful and is the same quality as MAC brushes but for a lot less money! You can email Crownbrushes and ask them to send you a catalog to order from. I have yet to order the Badger series but when I do I’ll be sure to post a blog on what I think of the collection. Either way, when I totaled up the entire badger collection of brushes, it came out to be about $125 USD with S&H, which would get you only 3-4 brushes from MAC. Just thought I’d let you all know that if you’re looking for a bargain but with good quality.
